Print Advertisements
As a Project Design Specialist intern at AroundCampus Group from May 2015 to December 2015, I was challenged with the responsibility to create and revise over 1,500 advertisements and provide creative support to the customer relations department to acquire the client’s approval of their artwork before sending publications to press. My responsibilities included: editing and improving a variety low-res graphics to meet company quality standards for print and digital products, including student planners, directories, apps, and marketing collateral; and assisted the managers with publication layout and proofed layouts and advertisements before press.
Marketing Collateral
During my time at AroundCampus Group, I was the primary graphic designer for the Campus Marketing Department. One of our major clients over the years was GMAC (The Graduate Management Admission Council) and they were the owners and administrators of the GMAT exam. It is the most widely used assessment for graduate management admissions and the most reliable predictor of academic success in graduate business studies. I was responsible for creating the marketing collateral used for the campaign initiatives. I primarily created the flyers and posters that our Brand Ambassadors passed out on college campuses across the nation.
Poster Design
Barbecue Pit Master Competition & RIVAL Magazine Poster
These two projects helped me deal with two key aspects of the practice of graphic design: the synthesis of typography and imagery, and representation.
For the first project, I was challenged with the task of creating a poster advertising a Barbecue Pit Master Competition. I primarily used typographic elements mixed with a few basic vector graphics. My ultimate goal was to include as much information as possible while maintaining visual hierarchy.
For the second project I had to pick subject matter that pertained to: 1) a significant event within the history of an academic, greek, or honorary organization and 2) an upcoming event occurring with the organization. I choose to create two designs to advertise RIVAL Magazine's first issue of the year. RIVAL is a joint publication between UNC-CH and Duke that celebrates the historic rivalry between the two universities.
Magazine & Newspaper
RIVAL Magazine
From 2014 – 2015 I was the Design Editor for a university publication called RIVAL Magazine. RIVAL is a joint publication between Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill that seeks to reinforce and redefine the historic rivalry. Rival is independently recognized at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is also a member of the Duke University Undergraduate Publication Board. My responsibilities included: managing and motivating the design team to meet weekly deadlines for content submission;Overseeing the entire design process by editing graphics for magazine spreads, compiling multiple files and assembling the final version of the magazine before for press; and coordinating with Alabama printer company and transport company to deliver 8,000 copies of the magazine on palettes
OZY.com Newspaper
During Fall 2015, I completed this project for JOMC 482: Newspaper Design at the Media and Journalism School in UNC-CH. For this assignment I had to choose a online news source that did not have any print platforms. I researched a variety of different news sources, but when I stumbled across OZY.com I knew I had to use this company for my project. OZY.com is a daily digital magazine custom built for the Change Generation that contains interesting stories and vivid imagery. The designs below reflect my vision of what OZY.com would look like in a newspaper layout. I took advantage of the websites colorful images and illustrations while maintaining the sleekness and simplicity of the digital design,
